TransOlímpica, a new addition to Rio’s public transportation system

BRT TransOlímpica Express Line

ICM 2018 will take place in Barra da Tijuca, a part of Rio de Janeiro known for its popular white-sand beach, mountains, forests and lagoons, as well as its manifold options in shopping, dining and night life. Barra is also central for the 2016 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games, which have precipitated a major overhaul in public transportation in the area. An expanded subway system and several new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines are amongst the neighborhood’s most significant developments.

The newly inaugurated TransOlímpica BRT line is the latest addition to Barra's transportation infrastructure. TransOlimpica consists of a bus system with dedicated roads and stations offering fast and easy connections between several other Olympic hotspots. It is expected to carry up to 70 thousand passengers per day when operating at full capacity. ICM participants will benefit from faster travel times between beach areas and the Riocentro convention center where the congress will take place.
